Gloom Descends

Early this afternnon, John and I wheeled Gloom, Unhappy Homes, and Unwelcome Guests off the truck. Hooray! Busting the first boxes open, we're thrilled with the results. Our new suppliers — as well as some typographical changes — have made a big improvement over previous printings in overall quality.

Look for all this Gloom-y goodness in stores near you as soon as the gods of shipping can get it there!

Gloom at Last?

A trucking company has informed me that at long last (delayed by printer problems, lost UPS parcels, and Texas ice storms) we should expect delivery of Gloom, Unhappy Homes and the new Unwelcome Guests expansion tomorrow (Friday) morning.

I may be able to start shipping some non-US customers tomorrow afternoon, but the serious shipping will begin on Monday, January 22nd. Stagger shipping to our US customers should mean that they all receive the goods for a release date of Friday, January 26th. (That's the date distributors will be able to sell the games to stores -- additional shipping time may mean it's not actually on store shelves until a few days later.)

BobDerme for his story of his son's first Gen Con.

Pieces of Eight Unplugged

GamerDad Unplugged features young Aiden's account of Gen Con SoCal, where he came across Pieces of Eight. Aiden says, "The next booth I went to was Pieces of Eight. To play you use coins. The coins pictures that let you do different pirate like things. The cool thing is there is no table needed. I got to play it. I bought the whole game. It was fun." Read more about Aiden's day at www.gamerdad.com

Also, Shannon Applecline has a new Pieces of Eight review up on RPG.net. He says that the coins have "a great weight and are entirely cool to hold, particularly when you have a handful of them--as you do for this game." He gives it a 4 for Style: "Classy & Well Done." Read the entire review.

40 Years of Gen Con Website LIVE!

Gaming guru Robin Laws is working on writing the story of every gamer's lifetime. It's a history that reaches out to four decades of gamers to put together a vast collage of the Gen Con experience from every point of view -- from the gamers playing in the halls, to the staffers behind the scenes, to the exhibitors on the sales floor. We're collecting oral histories, photographs, reminiscences, and more to chronicle the best four decades in gaming!

The GenConHistory.com web site is designed specifically for you to share personal stories and photos, and for you to vote for your favorite submissions to help us make the best book possible. If you feel inspired by a rush of memories to share with posterity, or a discover of a box of old snapshots, we want to hear from you! If your submission(s) are used in the book, you'll get a complimentary copy of it and your name in the credtis. And if any of your submissions are ranked in the top 25 stories or top 25 photos, you'll receive a 4-day badge for Gen Con Indy 2007!

Submit Photos - We're looking for the shots that you still remember years later -- the things that make Gen Con so unique! We especially need photos from the earliest Gen Cons, so the older the better! And don't forget the "shoot-off" Gen Cons, like Gen Con East, Gen Con South, and Gen Con UK.

Submit Stories - "Remember that time at Gen Con when ..." If you catch yourself saying this phrase, write it down and turn it in!

General Discussion - Have ideas for things you'd like to see in the 40 Years of Gen Con book? This is the place to share your ideas, as well as tips, comments, and leads!

Seismic on TDMonthly.com

TDMonthly's January "Expert Mom" article features a glowing review of Seismic! Her review says, "I would recommend carrying this game. The box design is attractive and bright, and the game depiction on the back appeals to buyers. It is educational, although it does not teach about earthquakes themselves. The game reinforces strategic thinking and planning. It is both constructed and packaged well, making it a high-quality product." Five out of five stars! Read the entire article now ...
